Hand Painted Maracas

Maracas are percussion instruments traditionally made from dried gourds whose origins in Latin America go back thousands of years.  Typically, maracas are shaken in each hand and produce a rattling sound made by the dried seeds of the gourd.  To this day, maracas are a key component in Latin American music, both in Central and South America as well as in the Carribean.

Hand-Painted Bamboo Flute

This bamboo-carved flute is decorated with an image of a hand-painted flower.  One end of the flute includes the blow-hole and the opposite side is an opening end.  Each flute includes 4 to 5 finger holes that are used to produce a range of sounds.

Handheld Whirling Drum

This drum is played by holding the handle between your hands and whirling the drum back and forth.  As you whirl the stick, the two strings attached to the drum begin to strike against the skin on each end.  The end of each string contains a bead that makes a percussive sound as it hits each side.
